Più là che Abruzzi
Michetti Museum, curated by Simone Ciglia
Through a practice based on research
in the field, the artist puts into practice participatory processes summarized in a personal reflection. More
that to the real datum, his interest is directed to the perceived, or rather to the feeling of social exclusion.
In this sense, Abruzzo is interpreted as a thermometer of a broader national context, in
a historic moment - already renamed post-crisis - in which the ruling classes are taking action to
generate new possibilities and activate the social strata affected by the years of depression.

The Humanitas association is pleased to present the exhibition Più là che Abruzzi by the artist Eugenio
Tibaldi, edited by Simone Ciglia.
The project finds its premises in the artist's residence at the Hotel Villa Maria, in
collaboration with the Municipality of Francavilla al Mare, leader in the Abruzzo public tender
Includes, issued in 2018 from the Abruzzo region and addressed to disadvantaged people: users
have been involved in a program of work placements at local companies aimed at
to promote social inclusion. The themes raised by the announcement find a convergence in the work of
Tibaldi, who from the beginning investigates the question of marginality according to a multiplicity of
perspectives - social, economic, political, geographical.
If the real data
indicate the region as median with respect to the national framework (based on personal income and
internal emigration), the perception of remoteness and isolation tell something more widespread e
subtle that characterizes the present. The intention of Più là that Abruzzi is to return a physical dimension
and aesthetics to this perception, linking it to the culture of the generating place.
The resulting exhibition is divided into two parts, distributed over the levels of the Michetti Museum. The first one
a selection of recent projects by Tibaldi - Questione a belonging,
Minimal architecture, Second chance, Inclusion - based on the concept of creation through
the aesthetic inclusion and active participation of society. At the lower level the new one is presented
production realized for the occasion: in this cycle of five installations the visions intertwine
of the people involved - the users of the Abruzzo Include call, called through a
questionnaire - and the personal one of the author, the result of a residence on the territory that has seen the
contribution of local associations, artisans and workers. The works are designed in relation to the
museum space, actively treating it as part of the work: welcoming element e
At the same time, the display container is designed as a representation
of the region itself.
Consistently with the intention of involving the territory, the exhibition is accompanied by a
calendar of events that reactivates the museum as a place for debates, theatrical performances, screenings
cinemas and presentations.
At the end of the exhibition, a catalog will be created that will document the project in his
complete articulation.
