DESCRIPTION

Second chance is the result of Tibaldi’s long stay in the neighbourhood of Barriera di Milano, in Turin, which he explored in its heterogeneous aspects: from history to society, to the architectural presence of old factories, since a long time piqueing the interest of the artist: «I have always thought that architecture becomes an art form when it betrays and disowns the initial project and starts living a life of its own, defeating the pair form-functionality. In the same way, whole neighbourhoods change skin and get redesigned».
Tibaldi chose to live in Barriera di Milano in order to build an exhibition which originates from the relationship with the citizens, considered the “skeleton” of the neighbourhood and direct activators of the socio-economic and aesthetic transformation which occurred in recent years and is still ongoing.
Through objects, stories and people, the exhibition narrates a change which, as mentioned by the artist «bears the traces of every past and every culture». Tibaldi utilizes forgotten and castoff objects, which he gives a second chance of interpretation, “mixing” them up both with his more recent works and other works specifically created for this exhibition. The result is an exhibition project which is not developed according to an archival perspective, but is aimed to draw a painting, an utopian analytical line of the historical moment we are living in.
